1933 Born in Mazinan, a suburb of Mashhad, Iran.
1948 Membership in the “Centre for Propagation of Islamic Truths”,founded by his father Mohammad-Taqi Shariati. He was a scholar ofQoranic interpretation who had left the official clerical duties foreducational work.
1952 Finishing Middle School; Teaching Secondary school and organizing"Islamic Student Associations", Arrested because of participation in anti-dictatorial demonstrations.
1953 Joining the “National Resistance Movement”.
1954 Receiving High School diploma; Translation of the book“High Moral Models,” written by Kashifal-Qeta.
1955 Start of studies in the Department of Literature in MashhadUniversity; Translation of the book “Abu-Dhar, the God-WorshipingSocialist” written by Jodatal- Sehhar, and the pamphlet titled “Thehistory of Evolution of Philosophy”.
1957Arrested along with 16 other members of “NationalResistance Movement”.
1959 Receiving the top place in the University and earning a scholarship to continue his education in France; Collaboration with a branch of“National Liberation Front for Algeria” (F.L.N).
1960 Getting to know Fanon personally and translating some of his work.
1961 Political activities as a member of the National Democratic oppositionand the “Iranian Student Confederation;” Publishing the oppositionNational-Front journals of “Iran Free” Press and “The Front Thought.” Fanon discourse for the first time was introduced to theIranianrevolutionary intelligentsia in the latter publication; Arrest atthe student demonstration in solidarity with Patrice Lumumba’smartyrdom on Jan 17th in front of the Belgian Embassy in Paris; Discussions with Guioze (Togolese intellectual) in Cite prison ofParis.
1962 Education and research in sociology and history of religions;attendance in L. Massignon, J. Berque and G. Gurvich lectures; Acquaintancewith J.P. Sartre and thethe publication of Al-Ahmad’s “Westomania” in Iran.
1963Receiving a Ph.D. in literature under G. Lazard’s supervision.
1964 Return to Iran and immediate arrest at the border.
1965-72Teaching in various high schools and Mashhad University;Publication of the literary pieces “Desert” and lecture series“Islamology” (Mashhad), and giving lecturers in universitiesthroughout the country, especially in H. Ershad Institute in Tehran, later closed down by the Shah Regime at the request of aconservative segment of the clergy; banning his lectures and publications.
1973-75 Solitary confinement for 18 months in Savak (Shah’s secret police) prison; Release from jail due to Algerian president’s request,homebound after release.
1977 In May, Succeeded in leaving Iran by using his middlename, but his wife and eldest chid were taken as hostage andwere prevented departure; Suspicious death in Southampton,England, in June.
